Gifts In Honor or Memory

Commemorating a special person with a gift to the LEO Foundation can be a lasting tribute to a loved one, friend or colleague, and it provides valuable support to students working toward educational achievements.   A gift “in memory of” someone is the term used when the namesake is deceased. A gift “in honor of” someone is usually made while that person is living, often for celebratory occasions such as Christmas, graduation, a promotion, birth of a child or grandchild, or retirement.
How to Donate
You may designate the placement of your gift and choose to donate to a program that is important to you or the gift’s namesake. You may even want to create a scholarship in someone’s name. It may be a one-time scholarship or one you and others can continually contribute.

Endowments

Imagine making a contribution that leaves a legacy for generations to come. This lasting impact can easily be made by establishing a LEO Foundation endowment.

Endowed funds differ from others in that the total amount of the gift is invested. Only a portion of the income earned is spent each year, while the remainder is added to the principal for growth. In this respect, an endowment is a perpetual gift. LEO Foundation endowments begin at $25,000, funded fully at its initiation or made as a pledge, payable over up to three years. Donors may contribute any amount to an existing endowed program or pool resources with other like-minded individuals or companies to create a new endowment.

Make A Pledge

You can choose to make a pledge and request that the LEO Foundation reminds you or charges your credit card at a specific time in the future. Making a pledge gives you the flexibility to distribute your gift throughout the year.

For your convenience, billing arrangements can be made monthly, quarterly or annually. We gladly accept the following forms of payment: cash, check, and credit card.

You can also make a secure online gift or pledge to the LEO Foundation by clicking the donate button below. Full payment of pledged gifts should be made by December 31st of each year.

Matching Gifts

Many companies set aside philanthropic dollars for higher education and allocate those funds through matching gift programs. These companies match employee, retiree and family contributions to educational institutions, doubling or sometimes tripling the amount of your gift. If you work for (or are a retiree of) a company that participates in a matching program, you can choose to contribute to the LEO Foundation and to the college of your choice, which is then matched by a corporate gift. Matching levels vary from one company to another, but regardless of the match percentage, these gifts represent a significant source of scholarship funds for students.

Although procedures for matching gift programs vary, matching gift forms can usually be obtained through the employer’s human resources department. The employee can complete and submit the signed form with a check made payable to the LEO Foundation.

Planned Giving

Planned giving or estate gifts allow you to make a meaningful contribution to the LEO Foundation to prepare students for lives of purpose, service and leadership. You will gain financial and tax benefits while making a lasting impact on future generations.
Increasingly, people are using planned gifts to augment their giving to universities. Planned or deferred gifts provide income to the LEO Foundation for many years into the future and may often involve tax benefits for donors.

Real Estate

Real estate is a powerful asset that can be donated as a direct gift. A deed or title can be transferred from you to the LEO Foundation easily and without a large amount of unnecessary paperwork. As the donor, you will be eligible for a real estate donation tax deduction which will be equal to the fair market share of your property and can be carried forward for five years. Additionally, you may avoid Capital Gains Tax, which would be incurred if you were to sell the property instead.

Under the provisions of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, students have the right to allow or deny LEO Foundation to disclose student education records, either academic or financial. By signing this authorization, you are requesting LEO Foundation to disclose personally identifiable information relating to your education record to a specific third party. Third party requests without authorization will not be fulfilled.
